Willingness to Change

Change is hard.
Change is scary.
Change is often uncomfortable.

Going through changes is honestly not the most fun thing we go through. Many of us would much, MUCH rather keep doing what we’re doing. We find comfort in the routine.

However, many of us desperately want, and sometimes need the change.

We want to change our habits.
We want to change our lifestyle.
We want … change.

So why are we so damn afraid of it?

I’m not equipped to unpack everything for YOU on the difficulties of humans making behavioral changes, but after coaching people for 16+ years, I do know this…

Nothing changes, if nothing changes.

Trite, I know, but it’s trite for a reason. It’s so simple. SO SIMPLE. The solution is right in front of you! You just have to change!

Easier said than done for almost all of us, but it’s not impossible.

There’s a key element in the change process. It’s not just acknowledging that you need to change, or even accepting that you need to change.

It’s the willingness.

The willingness to lean into change. The willingness to take a birdseye look at your behaviors. The willingness to get very, very vulnerable, uncomfortable, and honest with yourself about what you’re doing, and why it’s currently not working.

Woof. Tough.

That’s where coaches come in. Coaches can help you peel back the layers and help you figure things out. Coaches can help with your accountability. Coaches can offer creative ideas, solutions, and social + scientific proof to show you that you, indeed, CAN change.

But it’s all for not if it falls on deaf ears from a lack of willingness.

Look, I know this sounds a bit like tough love being dropped from the top rope … and that’s because it is. We need to hear the tough truth sometimes, but we need to know it’s coming from a place of compassion and love.

I want the best for you. I want you to achieve everything you want. I want to HELP you.

But you have to be willing to help yourself, and you have to put forth the willingness to make the change.

Once you bring the willingness to the table, everything is possible.

In the meantime, think about what you want, and what it might take to get. After that, have a conversation with yourself if you’re truly willing to make those trades. After that, make the magic happen.

See you at the gym,
