Weekend Decisions

by Clark Hibbs

Everything we do is a decision.

YOU get to decide what you want to do, where to go, who to be around, what to eat, what to drink, etc. Nobody is forcing you to do anything.

Now that that’s out of the way, let’s talk about the weekends and how they might affect your goals.

The weekends bring about some road blocks that societal norms tell us are totally fine and dandy to be obstructed by. The notion that it’s ok (and encouraged) to hurt your progress rather than help is very, very perplexing. You’ve had a hard week! Come grab some beers! Along with… Brunch on Sunday? Along with… We’re all going bar hopping on Saturday! Day drinkinggggg!!

There’s nothing wrong with grabbing some beers, going to brunch on Sunday, or going bar hopping with your friends. What’s wrong is doing these things and then still expecting to reach your goals in a reasonable amount of time (time varies goal to goal and person to person).

If you want to lose weight, you have to make the decision to stay dedicated to your progress on Saturday and Sunday. Measure your foods, eat in rather than at a restaurant, choose the lower calorie meal if you do go out, etc. Make These days count just as much as Monday through Friday. If you blow off your progress you’ve made Monday through Friday just for one night of excessive drinks and bad food, hate to break it to you, but you can’t be frustrated when the scale is showing you something you don’t want to see. One bad night can negate your entire week of hard work.

If your goal is to train X amount of days per week, nobody is stopping you on Saturday and Sunday! In fact, you probably have more time and freedom to get it done without the stresses that Monday through Friday often bring. Don’t have time? Wake up earlier. You’ve got 20 minutes. Your gym is closed? That’s ok. You don’t need a gym. This little workout will do the trick.

The weekends MATTER when it comes to your progress and reaching your goals. Make conscious and disciplined decisions this weekend that are going to help you progress towards where you want to be. If you get frustrated, remember why you started, and remember that this is a journey that it is going to take some time.

If you need any help, please reach out! That what we’re here for.
