Each week, we’re going to highlight one of our amazing members here at CrossFit Yellow Rose. Our members all have some pretty incredible stories to tell, and we want to share them with the world!
For this edition of the spotlight, we called on one of our staple 5AM-ers, Colleen! Here’s our quick Q&A with Colleen!
What’s your name?
Tell us a little about yourself in 5 sentences or less. Where are you from? Are you a parent? What are your hobbies? Anything unique about your life you want to share? (etc etc)
I am a married, working mom of two very active boys. I grew up in Harlingen, Texas and graduated from Texas A&M University with a degree in journalism. I worked as a newspaper reporter for a few years after graduation and moved to Houston for law school 16 years ago. I currently work as a labor and employment attorney at a large chemical company and support clients in the US, Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Mexico, and the United Kingdom. I love watching my boys play sports, cheering for the Aggies and Green Bay Packers, running, reading, traveling, and crossfitting.
Why did you start CrossFit? What was life like before?
Laura Tilley. She convinced me that I would like the challenge and variety and then helped me find the courage to give it a try. She was right, and I am forever grateful.
How has life improved?
I am healthier and more confident, and I have more energy to keep up with Jacob and Josh, who started CrossFit Kids last fall. I love hearing them tell other people how strong I am.
What do you love most about Yellow Rose?
It’s a tie between the coaching and the community. I had no real experience lifting weights and no idea what I was doing when I walked in the door. I appreciate that our coaches pay such close attention to our technique and push us when we are afraid to do something they know we are ready to try. I also love how much the members at Yellow Rose encourage and support each other both inside and outside the gym.
What would you tell someone on the fence about starting CrossFit?
Give it a try. The hardest part is walking in the door. The easiest part is knowing you are in good hands.
Thank you so much for being such an awesome part of our community, Colleen!
