Member Spotlight – Cody W.

Each week, we’re going to highlight one of our amazing members here at CrossFit Yellow Rose. Our members all have some pretty incredible stories to tell, and we want to share them with the world!

For this edition of the spotlight, we called on our man Cody Warren. Cody has been a member of Yellow Rose since the early days, and we couldn’t be more grateful to have his hard working and positive attitude with us each day! Enjoy our conversation with Cody!

What’s your name?

Cody Warren

Tell us a little about yourself in 5 sentences or less. Where are you from? Are you a parent? What are your hobbies? Anything unique about your life you want to share? (etc etc)

Born and raised in Corpus Christi, Tx! 2012 graduate of Texas A&M University, WHOOP

My hobbies are grilling, bow hunting & fishing. Ideally in the same day, if possible. Most of my ancillary hobbies support those, such as daily bow target practice, and CrossFit to keep up strength in order to pull back 80# at awkward angles.

Why did you start CrossFit? What was life like before?

I started CrossFit because I had endless excuses why my Lifetime membership was not creating abs by paying my monthly dues. CrossFit was an opportunity to show up, do the work, and see the results. I didn’t have to toil over my daily routine, large vs small muscle groups, etc. CrossFit was a place where accountability was generated by membership and getting to know other participants, and sweat was part of the daily sacrifice.

How has life improved?

Do you ever go with your friends to a state park, look at the mountain you need to climb in order to see the beautiful Texas views? When you are halfway up are you sweating profusely, wondering how to keep up?

That used to be me, but no anymore! CrossFit prepares you for all the fun things that a life of purpose requires. (It also makes you look great in a swimsuit, so my wife says!)

What do you love most about Yellow Rose?

Personalized coaching, small classes & upbeat attitudes. I also really enjoy the smaller square footage that Yellow Rose has. It makes the classes that much more personalized and focused, which leads to better sweats and heavier weights. It breeds a community of people that push each other, but also support you no matter what kind of day you might be having!

What would you tell someone on the fence about starting CrossFit?

Taking the first step is the hardest, but just sign up and show up. Don’t over think it. Don’t worry about the weight, what others are doing, or your physique. Everyone starts somewhere, everyone has their own insecurities, and we all have hard days too.

Once you get over the first step, just keep showing up and getting better. Become the best you!

Thank you so much for your continued loyalty, hard work, and positivity, Cody! We’re truly grateful to have you as a member here with us!
