This week at Yellow Rose was one of those weeks that could’ve gone either way, depending on which parts you chose to focus on.
There was a birthday party. There was a big nutrition win. There were happy faces all over the gym.
There were also no toilets….again, And someone blew up on me about “all the issues” we have.
Yeesh.
If I only told you the second half, you’d think Yellow Rose was falling apart. If I only told you the first half, you’d think everything’s perfect. Neither is true. Both things happened in the same week, to the same gym, run by the same people. That’s just… a regular week.

This week at Yellow Rose Rick had a birthday! The legends showed up big for him and threw him his own birthday party right after class in the lobby. That’s what community is all about. Nobody organized that from the top down. It just happens here.

We are once again without toilets. For the foreseeable future, apparently (9/5/2026). We’ve had members cancel over it, which is fair…. nobody signs up for a gym membership expecting to deal with plumbing drama. We’re trying to find the funny in it where we can. We named the luxury toilet trailer “Box Dumps.” Somebody’s got to laugh about it.

Throughout the classes and the training studio, progress was being made everywhere. I could point you to Josh hip thrusting 500 lbs, Kristy hitting a PR on the lat pull downs, Trevor knocking out 30 pound stabilized curls with ease, or the plethora of other performance markers that were hit… but the real thing I’m proud of is all of the attendance.
While so many gyms only hype on performance, we hype on showing up. When you show up, good things happen. It doesn’t matter what season you’re in or what you’re trying to accomplish. Showing up is what matters, and I’m so proud of all of our members for continuing to show up for themselves day after day, and week after week.

On the nutrition front: This member of ours has crushed it. She’s has lost body fat, gained muscle, and is performing better in her workouts… All while being in a maintenance phase. Four months of deficit. Five months of maintenance. That’s the part people skip, but arguably the most important part of a nutrition journey. White-knuckling your way through a weight loss goal is relatively easy, because there’s an end in sight. It’s the maitenance phase that’s the challenge and puts your systems to the test. She made the decision to work with Rachel, develop a solid system, and is reaping all of the benefits. 10 pounds down, and feeling better than ever. Check this out.

Oh, and if you ever need help with your nutrition, email Rachel directly! [email protected].

This week at Yellow Rose someone blew up on me this week about “all the issues” at Yellow Rose via text message. It sucks being on the receiving end of that. Nobody enjoys it. But at the end of the day, that’s one person out of hundreds who are happy here, or at least understanding.
If I’m making data-driven decisions, 1 person out of 400 isn’t enough to get worked up about. It doesn’t mean I ignore it. It means I don’t let it run the show. Every person at this gym is important to me, but I can’t let everyone’s opinions dictate my next move, or my feelings each day.
That’s the whole thing, really. A gym is just people, and people are messy. Some weeks that mess looks like backed-up plumbing. Some weeks it looks like someone unloading on you in the moment. And some weeks it looks like a birthday party nobody had to be asked to throw.
You don’t get to pick which parts show up. You just get to decide which ones you let define the week, and what your attitude is going to be throughout it all.
Thanks for reading these. I really enjoy writing them 🙂
